CAMP LOCATION: Laketrails is located on Oak Island in Lake of the Woods, about 6 miles from the mainland in the extreme northern area of Minnesota. We are found in the very unique Northwest Angle region of MN approximately 65 miles from the nearest U.S. towns of Roseau and Warroad, MN. The Base Camp location encompasses 17 wooded acres with rustic cabins, and it lies adjacent to our 250+ acres of wooded wilderness on the main part of Oak Island. Check out our website and this link to the Laketrails Photo Gallery: Our Camp Website Link: laketrails.org.
CAMP FACILITIES: Campers sleep in tents while on their 5-6 day canoe trips. Base Camp accommodations include 7 rustic camper cabins with bunks, our main Lodge where meals are served, the Chart House, or program building; a sauna, a large campfire area, and the Wilderness Building for trip food and equipment. Walking paths connect the facilities with an open yard for games and gatherings near the Lodge. All areas provide beautiful views of Lake of the Woods.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: "Unconditional acceptance" has been the hallmark of Laketrails since 1952. We believe every teen should be accepted for who they are, and we seek to develop empowered youth by teaching a healthy appreciation of nature, community living, and the gift of themselves. Teens gain a true sense of confidence and competence while paddling their way into the Canadian wilderness.
Nearly all activities at Laketrails involve the water! Swimming, beach games, fishing, Fun-yaks, canoeing, and campfires are all popular pastimes. A 5-6 day canoe trip through the island wilderness of Ontario is at the heart of our 9-day program.
Laketrails staff is certified in Wilderness First Aid and CPR, and well-trained in safety protocols, wilderness travel, and communication. To best serve our campers, a 1:5 ratio is maintained between staff and campers. We are proudly accredited by the American Camp Association. Please visit our website, Our Camp Website Link: www.laketrails.org, for more information.
CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Developing leadership skills is an inherent by-product of the Laketrails program. Youth are actively involved in planning their canoe trips, and by the end of their trail experience have developed an important sense of leadership and competence by contributing to the success of their group. Returning campers are eligible to apply for our Camper-Worker program which is a leadership position for campers.
CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: At Laketrails we believe no one should be deprived of the opportunity to experience a wilderness adventure because of a lack of finances. Therefore, we are pleased to be able to offer financial aid for campers in need. Campers who qualify for free/reduced school lunch automatically qualify for our financial aid. Please complete our "campership" application: Our Camp Website Link: laketrails.org.
FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): In addition to our regular youth camping program, Laketrails offers a women's canoe trip. Dates this year are July 19-27, 2020.
Laketrails is also hosting the Lake of the Woods Artists' Retreat to be held Sept. 10-13, 2018.
Call our camp office at 800-450-6460 or visit Our Camp Website Link: www.laketrails.org for more information on either program.
OTHER CAMP INFO: Laketrails sessions accommodate anywhere from 30-60 campers and focus on a unique combination of personal growth and a wilderness experience.
