SPECIAL NEEDS CAMPERS: Camp Wego is a Travel camp serving teens and adult with special needs ages 14-65. We are a small travel special needs camp that travel in the United States and abroad. We are able to provide low staffing ratios, 1 to 4. (1:1 if needed) We have highly credentialed and experienced staff so each individuals needs are met. We add new and innovative travel and activities each year.
Our travel is designed to enhance social, friendship, culture, and other vital life skills that promote independence. Camp Wego helps travelers make new friends while traveling in a safe, fun and educational environment.
We offer high-quality supervised tours for teens and adults with special needs year around. Our travel programs are specialized for individuals with Developmental Disabilities, Autism, Learning Disabilities, ADHD and Asperger's syndrome.
Individuals must be ambulatory and be able to take care of personal hygiene needs.

Students spend their days traveling to visit significant Texas sites in each of the camp cities on charter buses with Texas educators and come back to the lodging locations at night.

Lone Star Leadership Academy camps are offered throughout the summer. Cost is $995 and covers everything the student needs for the week including lodging, meals, all entrance and activity fees, supplies, t-shirts each day, backpack, and camp souvenirs. Contact Education in Action for early application deadlines. Final summer application deadline: May 9, 2020. Late applications are accepted through two weeks prior to each program's start date.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS:
LEADERS-IN-TRAINING (LIT) (ENTERING GRADE 10)
The Camp Shalom and Sports Camp LIT Program (formerly counselor in training) has been designed to allow teens a multifaceted experience. The program contains three core components: leadership training, hands-on counselor skills guidance, and fun, social programming. Each two-week session will focus on a new topic, the opportunity to work with one of three age-groups at camp, and will provide an off-campus trip.
LITs will also have the opportunity to partake in special camp electives created just for them! Under the supervision of the LIT Assistant Director, LITs will meet as a group regularly to attend workshops planned especially for that session’s theme. Upon successful completion of the LIT Program, participants will receive a minimum of 45 community service hours and are eligible for a higher rate of pay as Assistant Counselors at Camp Shalom.
CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: The Jewish Community Association of Austin maintains a policy of adjusting fees according to family income. The process is strictly confidential. Financial assistance forms are also available at the Welcome Desk, the ECP Front Desk, and in the Youth & Teen Programs Office. In order to be eligible for the limited funds available for financial assistance, you must register for camp and pay all associated registration fees and deposits. Then submit a copy of your camp registration confirmation e-mail with your financial assistance application. Awards of financial assistance are made possible for community members by generous contributions to the Jewish Federation of Greater Austin Annual Campaign and other philanthropic gifts to the JCC.
Deadline for submitting your application is March 7th, 2014.
YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: JCC Austin has a wide range of classes and programs geared specifically for preschoolers, youth and teens. The J is a great place to build lifelong friends, learn to act and dance, and have fun and stay fit while showing your teamwork and spirit in sports classes and leagues. Whether you want to explore your creativity with art and music classes, put your mind to the test with chess or LEGO Engineering, or build your job skills with babysitter training, we're here for you. Need help with your homework? No problem. Looking for a fun place to go when you're out of school? Come check us out!
Activities are offered year-round so parents never have to wonder what their kids will be doing on their time off. The Early Childhood Program, afterschool programs such as Kids Connection and enrichment classes are available during the week, Saturday Nights at the J, Sunday sports leagues and Birthday Parties make weekends more fun, middleschoolers enjoy Club Tiyul, and a wide variety of Camps are offered during holiday breaks and over the summer months. The JCC Maccabi Games are a yearly favorite with competition around the country and even in Israel!

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The Youth Adventure Program (YAP) is a series of one week courses designed to encourage career exploration in the fields of interest to gifted and talented students. YAP is held on the College Station campus of Texas A&M University, and courses are taught by university professors and other professionals. During the late afternoon and evening hours, students will participate in social and recreation activities that may include a pool party, a night at the movies, an "Amazing Race" or Picture Scavenger Hunt team activity, and our heralded "Wacky Olympics" competition.
